2017 04 23 BMW MCC: SUNDAY Breakfast ride to Cullinan. Ride Report
It was a cool autumn morning as we “bikers” gathered in Benoni, in the East Rand.
As we sipped on our morning coffee, our biker buddies started to arrive from near and far, from the East, South even from the West rand,
As we chatted and mingled with our likeminded biker buddies, and biker ladies, we contemplated our morning adventure, as the time drew near to make our departure to Cullinan (approx. 110 km ride)
It was decided the gravel/off road (dust riders) team would be the first to set off, under the guidance of experienced dirt ride leader Robert Whitecross.
15 minutes later the rest of us (road riders) set off under the guidance of ride leader and host Ian George.
As we mounted our trusted BMW steeds and started them up, one could not imagine life getting any better and with that said, we set off in to the sun rise.
And we departed onto the N 12 towards Delmas, we ventured of the highway on to the country side roads, riding along the open fields and meadows of lovely farm lands, with all its beauty, sights, smells and the colourful display of the cosmos flowers, it just makes one think “wow it’s great to be Alive”….
Ridding into Cullinan, which has the 5th richest diamond deposit in the world and is the only mine to produce blue diamonds, we learnt that it is also the only working diamond mine in Africa that conducts public tours through the mine………
We arrived at Whispering Oaks Garden Café in Cullinan, where we were welcomed by staff and management, who had kindly prepared parking and a welcoming cocktail juice.
Approximately 10 minutes later our “dust riders” arrived looking dusty but very well pleased with themselves, whilst we sat there totally chilled out having a long scrumptious breakfast and reviewing our lovely ride of the morning and started planning more future club rides together.
Thank you to all who participated and assisted in the ride and on behalf of Theresa and myself, we hope to see you all on the next ride
