BMW MCC: R. O. F. Thursday Lunch ride 22nd June 2017 to LION & SAFARI PARK
These rides are organized by Colin, R.O.F. (Retired Old Friends) or as I prefer (Real Old Friends or Retired Old Farts ????)………………
It was a lovely autumn morning as we gathered at the Engine petrol station in Longmeadow near Edenvale. We were to meet there around 9.30 am to depart at 10 am. As typical BMW members we were all early and rearing to go; fortunately Colin was there to calm us down. After several coffees and many cappuccinos (maybe that’s why we were all rearing to go, caffeine overload)
We were now 15 bikes & 17 riders
After a short briefing by Colin on our ride route and the stops we would be making, we saddled up and were ready to go……..
At this point I need to explain something, these ROF riders are Senior riders and NOT“old” please do NOT make that mistake, these Guys & Girls can really ride, they are not “old” but very experienced and fast riders…………..
We headed off towards Kempton Park, and then into our lovely county side towards Bapsfontien, we could already smell the lovely clean country side fresh air, after getting away from the hustle & bustle and congestion in the city, what a relief.
From Bapsfontien we head towards Rietvlei Dam and yes our dams are still full what a lovely ride around the dam, over the R23 highway and a Cappuccino/ coffee stop “again”…….
Now we were off again heading towards Hartbeestpoort dam, sadly the roads are still very rough almost “off road class” but to be fair they are repairing and re-tarring the road, so yes we did hit some road work stops and had to wait for about 20 minutes, however as bikers, we took this in our stride and had some chats about the ride thus far. As the road opened up so did we with our bikes………
As we arrived at the beautiful new Lion Park & Safari, there was ample parking for our BMW steads oh yes and 1 Ducati………
We dismounted and disrobed, (relax Ladies disrobed means we removed our jackets & helmets) and headed into the Park to our restaurant where Colin had booked or 16 people however our group had grown to over 20 by now, as some riders met the group there, where they joined us for a fabulous fun filled lunch, as can be seen below………………………..
Once again many thanks to all of you who come on this wonderful ROF ride for an awesome lunch and a fabulous time spent with like-minded people.
Wow what a way to spend a Thursday afternoon…..
A special thank you to Colin for all his efforts in arraigning this ride for us.
